Casa Nmandi

Ventanas, Guanacaste / 2025

Before we first visited the site, we heard the lot was unusual, it was densely wooded, and difficult to solve. Comments like that don’t discourage us; they make us curious. They make us want to understand the place more deeply.

At first glance, nothing reveals itself. But as you walk toward the center of the lot, it becomes clear why Stuart and Rob chose this land for their home. It tells a story. It is unique. And it deserves to be protected.

After a meticulous tree analysis, we identified which trees were untouchable and which could be carefully replanted. As always, the topography showed us the way — and we adapted. The inspiration came directly from the site: a pavilion among the trees. A floating structure that touches the earth lightly, a transparent volume where glass dissolves the boundary between interior and exterior.

The house should also be able to exhibit art — flexible and multifunctional, capable of transforming according to evolving needs. A discreet railing system for displaying art is integrated throughout the living space, allowing works to be installed, rotated, and curated with ease. Light is curated as carefully as the materials.

Colors echo the red/brown earth. A roof, thin as paper, hovers lightly above the structure. An infinity lap pool concentrates the eye and extends the horizon. A modular steel frame — slender, precise, and balanced — supports warm wooden textures that invite touch.

It is a place where land and architecture interact continuously. The landscape is not an afterthought, but something thoughtfully designed with native plants and carefully curated — shaped, protected, and allowed to evolve with the house.

As the concept takes form, the real process begins. A concentrated layout designed with precision, where every space counts and every detail has intention.
